Made for this city

Bangkok is not a flat grid, and the routing knows it.

Generic bike maps treat every road the same. Velomo’s Bangkok routing is built around the things that decide whether a ride here is pleasant or miserable.

Sois that connect

Many lanes look like shortcuts and end in a wall. Velomo routes on the real connections, so a dead end is never your shortcut.

Canal and riverside paths

Khlong-side walkways and river promenades make calm corridors across the city. Where they are on the map, Velomo uses them.

Footbridges

Switch on “OK to carry bike up stairs” and a footbridge becomes your way across a six-lane road.

Heat and shade

The shade option leans on tree-lined streets and park paths for the afternoon ride home.

Parks with cycling hours

Some parks only allow bikes at certain hours. Velomo knows them and tells you before you ride in.

Rider reports

Flooded road, new construction, a soi that just got closed. Riders report it, others confirm it, routes adapt.

Three routes, every trip

Three honest options for every trip.

Ask for a route and Velomo shows the calm one, the quick one and the compromise, each with a safety score and its risky spots. Safest may take you through quiet sois and along a canal path. Fastest tells you plainly that it uses Sukhumvit Road, and how many risky spots that costs.

  • Safest: quiet sois, canal paths, crossings with traffic lights
  • Balanced: fewer detours, still off the worst roads
  • Fastest: the direct line, main roads included

In Thai or English

Street names said the way locals say them.

Voice prompts and map labels come from the Thai-language map when you ride in Thai, and from English names when you ride in English. “Soi Sukhumvit 39” is never read out as a string of letters.

Bangkok questions

Riding in Bangkok with Velomo

Which parts of Bangkok are covered?

Routing works across Bangkok and the provinces around it. Our own testing has focused on the inner districts, so that is where routes have been checked most so far.

Does Velomo use the BTS and MRT?

Not yet. Trips that combine a ride with a train are on our list, since so many Bangkok commutes work that way.

What about the rainy season floods?

When riders report a flooded road or underpass, riders passing it are warned at once, and routes go around it as soon as a second rider confirms it. Flood reports expire after a few days, since the water goes too.

Is Velomo in Thai?

Yes. Pick ภาษาไทย on first start and everything, including voice guidance and street names, is in Thai.
